modular performances for urban spaces
year
2010

The urban space is cutted apart in performative frames of the theatre piece XD. The bodies and the actions of the performers fit to different kinds of locations and time conditions. A selection between the 20 frames of the piece is designed on the approached city to create a specific urban pathway with different ways of interaction: from the relaxed dilatation of a square to the adrenalinic count-down of the traffic light of a zebra crossing.

“[...] Zebra crossing outside Bologna’s train station. A Friday of returns from work and holidays. 5:45 PM are marked by the comings and goings of trolleys, bicycles, mobile phones, sunglasses and briefcases. Green. A pale and skinny boy dressed like Superman - complete with blue underpants, terry socks and shimmering red cape - throws himself running from the sidewalk. He jumps, diving forward. Two fellows, waiting for him crouched across the street, caught him while still in air and took him away running at full speed... Dry, is he, like a stockfish, and with his fist towards the infinite. End of the performative action. Duration: Less than a minute. This is one of the vignettes that forms the exploded and odd comic “XD 5 vignette sfuse per uso topico” presented/spread out in various places of Bologna.[...] A story made of images where the tragic postmodern masks dance together with battered and dazed superheroes, to be carried around like puppies. Androgynous bodies, anonymous even while wearing the Spiderman balaclava, so colorful to appear bruised and battered. Bodies to be written with the blu and red marker through the pathways of veins and arteries. Skins to be squeezed and stapled with stripes of plaster tape. Bodies that doesn’t tell us about dreams of adventures and superpowers, but rather of the tattered remains of an upside down reality, where myth and pop icons build up the identity of a generation and, at the same time, cannibalize the possibilities of the imagination, becoming the substitute of a being less and less sentient and desirous.
